


The authors first commercial book (an earlier book, THE KINETICS OF THE REACTION INACTIVATION OF TYROSINASE DURING ITS CATALYSIS OF THE AEROBIC OXIDATION OF CATECHOL, the author's Ph.D Dissertation, was first published in 1948) in a long and marvelous career which unfortunately came to a premature halt just about 500 books later. PEBBLE IN THE SKY, Doubleday, 1950, first edition, fine in vg+/near fine dust-wrappersave for some rear tape stain bleed through at the dust-wrapperspine extremities which wraps around somewhat to the corresponding sections of the front and rear dust-wrapperpanels. The dustjacket is now protected in a removable clear Bro-dart cover. Top edge of boards faintly stained (not affected internally), dustjacket along top edge also stained, large (10cm) horizontal closed tear to front panel, slight edgewear with small closed tears & chipped along upper front panel & spine ends, inner front flap split & almost detached from front panel, otherwise overall a nice clean tight solid hardcover copy. Printed in the USA at The Country Life Press, Garden City, N.Y. Pictorial dustjacket with "Doubleday Science Fiction" printed to upper right corner of front panel, b&w photograph of Asimov & biographical description to rear panel, UNCLIPPED with original published price of $2.50 intact on upper inner front flap, lower inner front flap states "This novel has not appeared in any form prior to book publication", inner rear flap with ad for "The Big Eye" by Max Ehrlich.

True first edition, with 1950 appearing on both title page & copyright page. Both produced from the same print run, but the BCE was released as a May 1961 selection while the trade issue was published 2 June." Omnibus edition of three novels originally published separately, 1951 - 1952: The Currents of Space, Pebble in the Sky (2nd place, 2001 Retro-Hugo for best novel of 1951), and The Stars, Like Dust. 8vo (5.75" x 8.5") According to SF expert Currey: "Code C13 on page 516 of both the trade and SFBC issues.

Doubleday / Science Fiction Book Club hard cover with dust jacket, 1961 edition, first printing May 1961 (Print code C13), 516 pages. Small dampstain, bottom corner rear end paper. First two blank pages show mild dampstain at bottom edge. Front hinge starting with webbing showing. Lime green boards with dark green print on the spine. Dust jacket is darkening with age, and has some stains and soiling now in new removable protective cover. Book club edition, which predated the publisher's edition.
